Blocking Definition Clarification: We will be adhering to definitions laid forth in the USAV and FIVB rule books. This means that a block is defined as ANY LEGAL CONTACT AT AND ABOVE THE NET to touch the the ball, that occurs after an attack. An attack is defined as A) any touch that puts the ball into the plane or over, or B) the 3rd contact by the opposing team.

For example, if the opposing team attempts to pass the ball over on the 3rd contact, and the blocking player uses 1 hand to directional block the ball away, that is still considered a block and not a tip. However, if that touch were to be called as a lift/throw under normal circumstances, it would be considered a lift/throw and would be a fault for the blocker.

For additional clarification regarding the official blocking rule, feel free to speak to Frank.

As always, because we do not use refs (except when the League Directors are watching a match), we expect that disagreements between players and teams be respectful, and that if you cannot come to an agreement a replay is always the right answer.
